Have you ever gone to bar?

I remember the last night in Kunming we had an idea to go to bar but we delayed it at the last time. Hehe. I had never gone to bar before at this time. Bar is still a new term in Vietnam and people often think bar as the negative side such drugs, wine and more.

However, I had a chance to go to bar after coming back Vietnam. My girlfriend asked me to go with. I have many expression about bar. First of all, it is so noisy and music is so loud. I was ready to ask for smaller music. I had to cover my ears by my hands but it did not work. Secondly, wine and cigarette are everywhere in bar. The air covered by smoking. However the most interesting here is girls. I were full of seeing beautiful and sexy girls. And I am sure that boys like this place most. On the other hand, the price in Vietnam for bar is not cheap and easy to effort for all. It only spent for limited groups. Luckily, I did not have to pay for the first time, the boyfriend of my girlfriend paid. Overall, I do not like bar and may be the first is the last.

Finally, it is time for Ferry’s pictures. He was so nice and had a lot of experiences after this course, such as setting up plot with a big group, 28 people. He always smile whenever I saw him and he got a beautiful smile. His wife is so lovely and she cooks very well, Nana said that. And it was also the reason why Ferry have never eaten meat in restaurants or outside meal.

My mother and the season of typhoon

Storm meant that a mass of “Xa cu” leaves and dry braches were dropped by strong wind. Tempest is the life resource of my mother because a massive number of leaves and dry branches would be collected in this season

The smell of “xa cu” and firewood after drying by the sun would become brittle. At this time, they were ready to cook rice and showed a very beautiful flame.

Her office planted a lot of “xa cu” trees. Their stems were so big; my entire arm could not embrace them. Each of stems was often painted by a layer of white lime, including many smaller layer were arranged in scale-shape. Using hand to pull patiently each scale out, which were all as big as my hand, in order to dry for the purpose of combustibles.

If only gathering, no storm, the amount from the sunny day was often very little.  Just after the typhoon had struck, however, the number of fallen leaves was a big plot and the branches were too many to discount. This was a crop more abundant than usual of my mother. Sometimes she got a large branch with a main branch and many smaller ones, my mother was happy as much as getting the price from a lottery ticket.

These typhoons suddenly struck in the late afternoon when her business hours and my school were over. I kept a wide jute bag, a bamboo broom with the handle higher than my head and run following to the fragile shadow of my mother. The wet leaves became so heavy, dripping wet, therefore if I had putted all my effort into the broom in order to make the leaves move, they would still  have been silent. At these times, hand was the best choice, I collected a big heap. We continued the process of gathering leaves, and fill up the jute bag. A heap of firewood and the jute bag of leaves came together were as the sign of possessive, belonging to my mother.

At the present, my mother does not have to waiting for typhoon to collect leaves. Having spare time, she often tells these story of my childhood, these past days that was hard with her to sweep up leaves. She says that she did not afraid of storm, thunderstorm and until now she has not known why. Nevertheless, I entirely knew what made her overcome these difficulties. This is her unlimited love spending on my family, my father, mine and my younger brother.

Some recent days, my hometown, Hanoi has been raining, sometime drizzling sometimes heavy shower. But it makes the weather easier to breathe, not too hot and sultry. And i wonder what has Navendu been doing? I give him many thanks because there are, maybe, many interesting or happy things came to him so he laugh all time day after day. Or He can get married earlier than waiting more than 5 years for his wife to be 20 years old, can not he? That is the reason why it has been raining until now when I am writing something

But keep your healthy, Navendu. You will be exhausted before getting married.

Hi all

I hope that all had a pleasant flight. I had to wait more 1 hour at the airport. Because the last flight had came to Kunming, there were a person infected by H1N1. So we had to wait for some formalities to make sure that they killed all virus in the plane. So until nearly 11 p.m I already were in Vietnam. It last longer than I hoped. At this time, I looked for Jeremy, but I could not find him. I did not why, maybe he changed the flight?

I totally exhausted after this flight, I slept all day after. It seemed that I did not have enough time to sleep in XTBG. I were always sleepy in the last week. Because our group catch the dealine for the last presentation.  But I were so happy because of working.

After sitting in test on tropical forest ecosystem in this afternoon. Now I am going to repair for my master thesis, from statistic the data and choose the methods to analyse data. I had a plan to present this in October. After that, I will finish my master degree. Thank to this course, I can be clearer about analysing data. I am going to apply Estimate 7.5 and R program for my thesis. I hope this would be work well on my thesis. Therefore, the first step is that I must learn both of them.

To be honest, I really missed friends in this course, Nana, Peter, Navendu, Nyana, Wu Kai, Bkate, Dou dou, hua xia, the couple,… I hope that their work after this course would be fine and they would get all they want.

The first one is Peter. Hi, Peter. So luckily to be his friend. I used to think that people from Africa is so cruel because some one I saw in my country were always cruel. But he is totally opposite. He is so kind and helpful. When I did not really understand about invasive plants, he gave me some good explanation why introduced plants could develop in the new environment with a significantly speed. And he always shares his snack with me in the evening because the dinner is too early. He is also a writer, I will try to find and read his book. He has a colorful life, a half of scientist and a half of writer. I wonder when two different aspects of the life come together and place in a person, are they co-existence? As in tropical forest, there are abundant species live in the same big ecosystem. But until now, researcher in the world still try to answer this question.

The second person is Jer-pin. I learnt a lot from him and hope that he would be successful in his future. Some people met him the first time, often not like him. I guess, he is so cruel or something like this. This is the reason why he is Peter’s roommate, also being cruel. But afterthat he was not cruel at all, he made many jokes in his presentation. He is also really passion and patient to listen to my questions and answer them.  And giving me some suggestions how to write a good master thesis and how to learnd English easier. Sometimes, I do not like him but in general he is a good friend. There are some other reasons that I always hope that he would be successful researcher.

In the past, all scientists and people used to go to library as a routine activity to gain knowledge from any culture, to discover nature or just to find what they wanted. But at present, everything has been significantly changing basing on the development of World Wide Web. Internet was born and has affected on the aspects of human’s life. What are the differences here or just it is revolution of publishing?

In traditional library, you could find the invaluable information from the first generations who collected, reserved, and made them in order for the future generation. In general, a library is often described in a high building with many massive shelves including many kinds of books, data, journals. When you come and go around a library, that means you have a interesting travel through spatial and temporal, from the starting point of knowledge to present. The system of libraries placed around the world is a invaluable treasure of human being. However, some existence reduce partly in its role. The most striking is lacking connection, you only find the information or data about a certain field in certain library or these data of a country is recorded and protected in this nation. Secondly, it is difficulty to seek a small information inside a great amount of database by walking from this shelf to another, from the region to others. Time, last but not least is the main destroyed factor that many countries have been facing to reserved the data they had. Is there, hence, any version of library could recover all disadvantages?

As a sequence, the presence of online data centers is the answer to tackle all problems of traditional library. Nowadays, researchers have a tendency on seeking internet and just by tapping fingers, the whole data world will appear. There are a variety of international, intergovernmental and funding agencies have set up a guidance to make data available such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the International Council for Science (ICSU), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), the European Research Council, UK Research Councils, and the US National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health and many others for you to choose. Internet bring all scientists over the world to one place in order to work, communicate and research. Specially, at present, there are a lot of globalization issues that can not be responsible for any country such as climate change, disease, pollutions. Connection is more and more important to set up a global strategy.

When internet and scientists come together, they will produce the data centers. It is slightly luckily nowadays information derive from many sources and up-date day by day under researches have been performing is usually aggregated and add significant value to data sets through quality control procedures, ensuring adequate metadata, and providing online tools to explore, visualize (e.g., maps, graphs), and download the data in formats suitable for further research (Arzberger, P., 2004)  Researchers will be able to process massive amounts of complex and up-date data much more quickly, 750 visitors unique  IP addressed view more than 20  million pagers just one month (Doug Howe, Seung Yon Rhee et al., 2008). One of these is the expense: with online publication is less expensive and its exposes the author’s work to far wider audience and the cost of saving and reusing data published online is also likely to be lower than the cost of collecting them again. The second is about scientific activities, in which making data availability mandatory may help discourage and expose scientific misconduct and such data are inevitably a sample of what could be collected at different spatial scales and overtime. To identify a good hypothesis is the third advantages, the investigators collects only the data that are relevant to the original hypothesis and when new information cause the original hypothesis to change, they must plan a new experiment from scratch.

In conclusion, the development of digital library through building online data centers and being incentive online publication of data has been increasing sharply. However, there is a co-existence between traditional and the digital one.We could not deny the role of books and journal in the present life, many people and scientists still keen on reading books when they are in bed. Although this, print media is the future of publishing science
